Tilted Earth Farm is a labor of love. Founded by Heather and Wayne Houk the farm was an opportunity to share our collective knowledge, create healthy soils, teach our son a strong environmental ethic and share our passion for growing great food. Wayne grew up in Tennessee as a 'farm kid' learning everything from milking the cows to planting and harvesting for his grandfather and neighbors. Heather was a late bloomer, so to speak. Earning an undergraduate degree in Agroecology and Community Development and a graduate degree in Sustainable Education, Heather co-founded the first CSA in Arizona with the main goal of helping local farmers create a sustainable income from farming and create relationships between eaters and growers. Later began teaching sustainable farming and small-scale agriculture classes for Prescott College, Heather found her passion. Eventually moving to Durango to start our own farm, applying our experience, training and passion into creating a rich, bio-active soil that has been fallow for years, restoring old pasture land and designing a permaculture paradise for our family, friends, community and many millions of worms.
